Beyond Energy: Conversations shaping the sector

A note from Adam Sroka, Hypercube CEO & Co-Founder:

At the recent Beyond Energy meetup in Edinburgh, the discussion highlighted just how quickly the sector is changing. From massive electrification needs and renewable-heavy grids to the rise of flexibility markets and shifting workforce skills, the challenges and opportunities are wide-ranging.

AI came through as a recurring theme - not as hype, but as a practical enabler. Examples included EV fleet optimisation, where 50 buses charging at once can become a grid opportunity, and market models that reward flexibility. Still, the real hurdles aren’t technical: they’re about data maturity, governance, and trust. The big takeaway? Success in the energy transition depends on pairing deep domain expertise with technical capability, and introducing automation step by step to build confidence.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined the Edinburgh meetup - your insights, questions, and perspectives made the conversation so valuable. We’re looking forward to continuing the dialogue together.

Adam Sroka delivers keynote session at Big Data LDN

Adam Sroka was invited as a keynote speaker and thought leader representing Hypercube at this year’s Big Data LDN, one of the UK’s largest data and AI events attracting over 15,000 attendees.

Across two sessions in a single day, Adam shared insights on some of the most important challenges in data and energy.

With Chad Sanderson (CEO, Gable)
"Data Lineage in the Era of AI"

  • Explored how AI-driven code analysis is transforming lineage
  • Showed how to automatically map end-to-end data flows
  • Highlighted ways to uncover hidden dependencies in complex, regulated systems

With Steve Sinclair (Head of Data, Flexitricity)
"Automating MLOps Pipelines for Energy Flexibility"

  • Demonstrated how MLOps best practices scale models in energy
  • Shared methods to optimise flexible assets at scale
  • Offered practical steps toward smarter, more resilient energy systems

It was a fantastic day of ideas, insights, and conversations - with Adam and the team showcasing Hypercube’s work and connecting with the wider data community.

New partnership with SAS

This month, Ivona Voroneckaja, Engineering Manager, marked an exciting milestone at the SAS HQ in Glasgow, helping to kick off our brand-new partnership between Hypercube and SAS.

Ivona described it as a real “pinch me” moment - having once studied SAS in depth at university, she’s now collaborating with the very people behind the platform. Her reflections captured perfectly how far both she and Hypercube have come.

Through this partnership, part of the SAS IoT Partner Ecosystem, we’ll combine Hypercube’s energy expertise with SAS’s world-leading analytics and AI capabilities to help energy companies forecast better, operate smarter, and build more resilient, sustainable systems.

A big thank you to Ivona for sharing the story - and to the SAS team for such a warm welcome. We’re excited to continue building this collaboration and will be joining SAS at OTD Energy in Norway on 15–16 October - with 350 energy companies, major conferences, and valuable opportunities to connect.

Hypercube at Battery Asset Management

Adam Sroka will be moderating the keynote panel “Lessons Learned from the Veterans - The Yes, the No’s & the Maybe’s” at the upcoming Battery Asset Management Summit UK & Ireland.

This session brings together experienced operators from across the UK & Ireland to reflect on what they would do again, what they wouldn’t, and what they might approach differently when it comes to battery asset management.

The discussion will explore:

  • Proven approaches that deliver long-term value and efficiency
  • Lessons learned from operational hurdles and pitfalls
  • Realistic roadmaps for UK BESS operations
  • Emerging trends and innovations shaping the sector

It promises to be a dynamic discussion, with Adam guiding the conversation and drawing out hard-earned insights from industry leaders. We’re looking forward to the panel and the valuable perspectives it will bring to the summit.

Insights from Beyond Energy Edinburgh

The latest Beyond Energy Community event in Edinburgh brought together practitioners, academics, and innovators for an evening of open discussion on how data and AI are reshaping the energy sector.

Key themes included:

  • Flexibility as the backbone of net zero - shifting demand to align with renewables and managing the scale of distributed assets.
  • AI’s potential and responsibility - balancing optimism with caution as data centre demand grows, and building trust through narrow, transparent applications.
  • Rethinking optimisation - moving beyond buzzwords to practical strategies for both new technologies and legacy infrastructure.
  • Skills for the future - pairing technical expertise with domain knowledge, critical thinking, and judgment to navigate uncertainty.
  • Community at the centre - recognising that collaboration, trust, and shared learning are just as critical as technology.

Rather than offering all the answers, the event created a space for honest conversation and shared learning - a reminder that the energy transition will be built collectively, through trust, collaboration, and community.

Cyber Essentials Plus certified

We’re delighted to share that Hypercube has successfully achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification again.

This nationally recognised accreditation provides independent assurance that our systems and processes meet rigorous cybersecurity standards. It’s not just a box-tick - the certification involves a detailed technical audit of how we protect against cyber threats, giving our clients and partners added confidence that their data is safe with us.

For us, this milestone reinforces a core value: security and trust are at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to keeping our safeguards strong, our practices transparent, and our community protected.

Why Scotland’s energy sector needs a digital backbone

In a recent guest article for Digital Nation Scotland, Adam Sroka set out a powerful vision for how Scotland can harness data and AI to unlock the full potential of its renewable energy transition.

Scotland’s renewable sector is booming, but with growth comes new challenges - from curtailment and grid constraints to forecasting complexity and market volatility. Adam argues that the solution isn’t just more pylons and hardware, but a digital backbone: the data strategies, AI tools, and governance frameworks that enable operators to extract maximum value from every megawatt.

Key themes:

  • Predictive maintenance – using machine learning to prevent costly downtime and protect output.
  • AI-enhanced forecasting – making weather and market predictions more accurate and adaptive.
  • Trading and flexibility markets – enabling faster, smarter participation to support grid stability.
  • Governance and compliance – embedding AI use in transparent, auditable frameworks that meet regulatory standards.

The message is clear: just as Scotland built world-class renewable projects, it now needs to treat data as critical infrastructure. With the right digital foundations, the sector can become more resilient, profitable, and collaborative - turning energy data into a true competitive advantage.

LLM Compliance for the Energy Sector

Large language models are quickly becoming a core tool in the energy sector, helping organisations speed up processes, improve insights, and reduce manual effort. But with 75% of knowledge workers now using AI – often through unsanctioned tools – the risks of unmanaged adoption are increasing.

In this on-demand webinar, Dr Adam Sroka explored how energy companies can take advantage of AI while staying compliant with growing regulatory expectations from Ofgem and the ICO.

The session covered:

  • Why AI compliance is both complex and critical in energy
  • How to identify and manage shadow usage of LLMs
  • Approaches for testing models for bias, safety, and accuracy
  • The trade-offs between DIY and managed compliance
  • Building a roadmap for transparent, scalable oversight
