Bridgit Hartland-Johnson joins Hypercube as Non-Executive Director

This month, we’re delighted to welcome Bridgit Hartland-Johnson to Hypercube’s board as Non-Executive Director. With over 30 years of experience across global energy systems, infrastructure and regulation, she brings valuable insight that strengthens our domain-led approach to AI in the sector.

Following a highly influential tenure as Director and Chief Specialist at Ørsted, one of the world’s largest renewable energy companies, Bridgit has led first-of-a-kind offshore and storage projects, shaped emerging policy, and worked across government, investors and industry to deliver complex infrastructure at scale. Her background across offshore development, storage, regulation and cross-industry leadership aligns directly with the challenges organisations face as they adopt AI more strategically and responsibly.

A note from Bridgit:

“Hypercube is working on some of the most important challenges facing the energy sector today. I’m excited to support the team as they grow their impact and help organisations navigate increasingly complex energy systems.”

Hypercube at the ESN Annual Conference

Yesterday, the team were proud to exhibit at the Electricity Storage Network Annual Conference at IET London, one of the key annual gatherings for leaders shaping the UK’s storage sector. With more than 300 industry leaders, investors and policymakers in the room, the day offered sharp insight into the challenges and opportunities ahead for grid-scale storage.

Sessions featured senior voices from DESNZ, Ofgem, NESO and across the developer and investor landscape, covering Clean Power 2030, revenue trends, long-duration storage and grid connection reform. With over 5 GW of batteries now online and major new projects in the pipeline, it’s clear the pace of growth is accelerating.

As exhibitors, we met a wide range of organisations driving the next phase of flexibility and storage. It was great to connect with so many partners, clients and peers throughout the day.

Taking the risk out of AI in energy

This month, Adam took part in Energy Systems Catapult’s session “Value in Energy Data: Large Language Model Compliance for the Energy Sector,” exploring one of the most urgent questions facing energy organisations today: how to use AI safely, responsibly and at scale.

As large language models become embedded across trading, operations, engineering and customer processes, the sector is under increasing pressure to manage the risks of bias, data exposure and shadow AI, all while keeping pace with innovation. With Ofgem and the ICO raising expectations around responsible AI use, the need for clear governance has never been greater.

Adam shared practical guidance from Hypercube’s CALLM framework, covering risk assessment, model testing, transparent oversight and approaches to aligning with emerging regulation. The session highlighted how good governance can act as an enabler, giving organisations the confidence to adopt AI at speed without compromising safety or compliance.

Engineering the future of low-energy water systems

On this episode of the Hypercube Energy Podcast, Adam speaks with Dr Stephanie Loeb, Professor of Civil Engineering at McGill University, to uncover the hidden energy footprint of our water systems and why the water–energy nexus is becoming impossible to ignore.

They explore sunlight-driven treatment technologies and advanced materials that break down pathogens and PFAS, opening the door to cleaner, decentralised and off-grid water solutions. Stephanie also shares how AI-enabled monitoring can transform rich optical data into real-time insights for beaches, rivers and drinking water networks.

The conversation points to a future defined by smarter data, innovative design and more resilient, low-energy water infrastructure.

Energy Storage Awards 2025

Iain Cherry, COO at Hypercube, recently joined the Energy Storage Awards, presenting the Breakthrough R&D/Innovation of the Year category. The award celebrates the ideas and technologies pushing the storage sector forward, from next-generation battery chemistries and smarter co-location strategies to scientific breakthroughs and bold engineering that enable new levels of performance and flexibility.

It was a privilege for Iain to recognise the teams driving genuine innovation across the industry. Congratulations to EDF Wholesale Market Services, the winner of this year’s award.

A practical guide to agentic AI for energy

We’ve published a new technical guide on agentic AI, a next-generation automation approach built on LLMs that is rapidly becoming central to digital operations in energy. As markets grow more complex and data volumes surge, traditional workflows are hitting their limits, and agentic systems offer a scalable alternative.

The guide explains the differences between traditional AI, generative AI and agentic AI, and how each can be applied across real operational environments. It then showcases practical examples of agentic AI in action across the energy value chain, including reporting, optimisation, forecasting, contract analysis and compliance.

For teams exploring emerging AI capabilities, the guide provides clear starting points and realistic scenarios to help identify where agentic AI can unlock measurable efficiency and reliability gains.
