Ofgem's ethical AI guidance for the energy sector
A note from Adam Sroka, Hypercube CEO & Founder:
Ofgem’s new AI guidance doesn’t pull any punches – and I’m here for it.
It’s one of the first documents I’ve seen that properly recognises the reality of AI deployment in the energy sector: the tech itself isn’t the hard bit. It’s everything around it – governance, explainability, and most of all, people.
The line that really stood out to me? “Access to competent persons.” It’s painfully true. The biggest risks with AI usually come down to misunderstanding – not malicious intent or flawed models, but teams that don’t have the right context, experience, or support to use these systems safely.
At Hypercube, this has always been front and centre in our work. We’re not just shipping models. We’re building internal capability, aligning teams, and making sure AI systems are built to stand the test of real-world change.
In light of this, we’ve built a free AI Readiness Assessment tool – a quick and practical way to understand where your organisation stands today, and what’s needed to move forward with AI in a safe, strategic, and sector-specific way.
Hypercube Podcast: Bluefield’s Giovanni Terranova & Jon Henderson
Adam sits down with Giovanni Terranova (Founding Partner) and Jon Henderson (Director of Onshore Wind, Solar PV & Battery Storage) from Bluefield to unpack how one of the UK’s top renewable investors evolved into a fully integrated solar, wind, and storage platform.
Adam, Giovanni, and Jon cover:
- Bluefield’s journey from the UK’s first listed solar fund to a pan-European renewables group
- Why full integration beats acquisition – and how it impacts culture, operations, and strategy
- Managing 140+ assets with unified data platforms, SCADA systems, and in-house analytics
- The value in repowering ageing assets and why batteries are the next big growth area
- Talent, retention, and what it takes to scale a future-proof renewables business across Europe
Beyond Energy Community Meetup - London

Last week, we hosted our Beyond Energy Community Meetup in London – bringing together industry peers for a brilliant evening of insight, connection, and conversation.
The highlight of the night was our panel discussion on how the energy sector is evolving, and the growing role of technology in shaping its future. Huge thanks to our panellists: Bridgit Hartland-Johnson (former Chief Specialist, Ørsted), Hugo Lidbetter (Energy Partner, Osborne Clarke) and Steve Higgins (Commercial Director, ACCURE) for sharing their perspectives on everything from asset optimisation and public perception of the energy sector to talent challenges and AI readiness.
We’re already looking forward to the next one.

Key takeaways from All-Energy Glasgow 2025
Ciara Inglis, Marketing Manager, shares the key themes observed at this year's conference.
-
AI and data centres in the energy mix
As AI adoption grows, data centres are under scrutiny for their energy use – and their potential role in supporting grid stability. -
Flexibility as a commercial opportunity
Demand-side response is evolving from a grid service to a viable revenue stream, with growing interest from aggregators and energy users. -
Scaling AI requires trust
AI success hinges on more than performance – validation, governance, and explainability are now critical to adoption.
Managing contracts and documentation across large-scale renewables projects is complex, manual, and often inefficient. This on-demand session explores how AI streamlines workflows, reduces risk, and unlocks hidden value.
- Market view of renewable energy project pipelines
- Overview of the AI landscape and the tools available
- Live demonstration of AI-powered contract intelligence
- Off-the-shelf vs bespoke AI solutions
- The potential ROI of AI for large renewable energy projects
Ville Kaituri, Founder of Olana Energy, on BESS in emerging markets
What happens when a solar startup scraps the pipeline and bets everything on batteries – and people? In this episode, Olana Energy’s Ville Kaituri joins Adam to talk grid chaos, entrepreneurial energy, and why the future belongs to fast, founder-led infrastructure. They cover:
- Pivoting from solar to BESS and scaling across Poland and the Baltics
- Why people-first beats project-first in fast-moving markets
- The power of quick decisions, flat teams, and founder-led growth
- Insights from emerging markets on grids, investment, and regulation
CMS In-House Essentials

We were invited to attend CMS’s In-House Essentials launch event in Aberdeen – a brilliant kickoff to this new event series for Scotland’s in-house legal community.
The morning opened with a sharp recap from CMS partners on the current legal landscape and key horizon-scanning priorities for in-house teams. We also heard an overview of CMS’s approach to legal innovation and the evolving AI landscape.
Our CEO Adam Sroka contributed a session on the role of AI in contract management, exploring how agentic AI tools are reducing the manual burden of complex, document-heavy projects and unlocking new strategic value in energy and infrastructure.
A great day of conversation, legal perspectives, and connecting with in-house teams tackling real operational challenges across infrastructure and energy.
Metadata: the next big tech trend?
Metadata – the “data about your data” – is quickly becoming a cornerstone of trustworthy, scalable AI systems.
As AI and large language models (LLMs) take on increasingly complex tasks, strong metadata is no longer optional. Without it, these systems struggle to interpret what they’re processing. Is the data live or simulated? Verified or forecasted? Historical or predictive?
Clear metadata provides the vital context AI needs to distinguish between these states. This becomes even more critical in sectors like utilities, energy, and infrastructure, where real-time and high-frequency data flows underpin essential operations. Robust metadata ensures that AI-driven insights are not just fast, but accurate, explainable, and reliable – making it a fundamental building block for the next generation of AI innovation.
